The Laver Cup is taking place after 2 years, and Team Europe is proving to be just as strong as they were in 2019. It is currently being held at TD Garden in Boston, after being postponed for a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
There Is No Love Lost In The Laver CupThis is the 4th time the Laver Cup is being held, and fans were eager to watch the team competition of the men start on Friday. Team Europe had finished 2019 without being defeated even once after being victorious in Geneva.
In this yearâs edition, there are several newcomers to the event who are quite highly ranked. As such, the spectacle is getting a refreshing makeover during the weekend. This is exactly the theme of the show as proceedings kicked off.
Roger Federer, the co-founder of the Laver Cup, was among the standsâ audience. Under his watchful eyes, Casper Ruud of Team Europe proved his worth as he defeated Reilly Opelka of Team World. He ensured his teamâs first point by beating his opponent 6-3, 7-6(4).
Afterward, on the court, Ruud admitted that he was pretty nervous as he was playing in the Laver Cup for the first time. The stadium and the crowd were both very big. He described how he had chills as he walked onto the court. Seeing every legend, the music, and the intro playing had that kind of effect on him.
Fortunately, he felt like he handled the situation well. A break in the early game helped to calm his never a bit. But Ruud said that he was trying to enjoy his moment while playing without any pressure.
Opelka was broken by Ruud in the Laver Cup matchâs third game.
