Most of Australiaâs athletics team is clear to compete as normal after all close contacts of an American athlete who tested positive have returned negative results.
But the AOC says three members of the Olympic team will be subject to stricter protocols, having self-reported as close contacts of American pole vaulter Sam Kendricks, who has tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of the Olympics.
The three Australians subject to stricter protocols are pole vaulters Kurtis Marschall and Nina Kennedy and coach Paul Burgess.
The team was put into isolation after contact between an Australian and Kendricks.
All 63 Australian athletes were sent into lockdown in their hotel rooms and underwent testing as per COVID-19 protocols. But all tests have come back negative.
However, an Argentinian pole vaulter has also tested positive to COVID-19 and is out of the Games.
German Chiaraviglio confirmed on social media that his Games were over after returning a positive test. Oddly, he said he returned a positive saliva sample three days in a row but a PCR swab test came back negative each time. Then on the fourth day, yesterday, the swab also came back positive and he knew his Olympics were over.

Jess Foxâs father, Richard, who is a former paddler himself and was in the commentary box for Seven for his daughterâs winning run, described it as âbeautifulâ.
âThat was wild,â he said.
âNow, the semi today did her a lot of good because she was down. Like, that kayak final rocked her. It rocked me.
âWhen you hit the last gate or the last upstream. She made sure this time, make sure you donât hit it with your hair.
âI said, âMake your choices, own your choices with confidence and control.â And she did.
âShe made good choices. âFind the flow, feel it and focusâ. And the focus was so strong. She kept breathing and she held it.â
Australiaâs Jess Fox has won her long-awaited gold medal with an exceptional performance and she is overjoyed.
The three-time Olympian has gone so close in previous Games but fallen just short. This time she has made every post a winner to claim gold in the canoe slalom final.
Her time was 105.04 seconds, well ahead of Great Britainâs Mallory Franklinâs 108.68 in silver while Germanyâs Andrea Herzog finished in 109.13 for bronze.
Earlier we brought you the news that Australia had missed out on a medal in the womenâs trap shooting final but San Marino was guaranteed its first ever Olympic medal. Here are the results:
And the menâs final has also been completed.
Australiaâs Jess Fox is about to hit the watercourse and she will need to better her semi-final time if she is to win the gold medal for the C1 Canoe Slalom competition.
Fox qualified first with a time of 110.59 and she is the last competitor due to that time.
She will drop on to the course needing to beat Mallory Franklin of Great Britainâs time of 108.68 to win gold.
The Australian Olympic Committee has released a statement saying all but three athletes from the countryâs track and field team have been cleared to return to their regular routines after isolating as a precaution due to a positive COVID-19 case in an American pole vaulter.
The three athletes are pole vaulters Kurtis Marschall and Nina Kennedy and coach Paul Burgess.
âThree members of the team underwent PCR testing following a brief casual contact with a US track and field athlete who had tested positive to COVID 19,â the statement said.
âAll three tested negative after undergoing a PCR test this afternoon, while teammates remained in their rooms in line with AOC COVID protocols. The three, who are all vaccinated, self-reported once they heard news of the US athlete testing positive late this morning. All daily tests of the trio in the village had also returned negative results. All members of the Australian Team at the Tokyo Games are tested daily.
âFifty-four members of the track and field team (41 athletes and 13 officials) were later given permission to leave after spending a little over two hours in their rooms.
âThe three team members tested this afternoon are now in isolation and will be tested daily. They will be allowed to resume training, subject to strict protocols that restricts their contact with others. At this stage all athletes are expected to compete as planned.â
Australian Olympic Team chef de mission Ian Chesterman said the protocols put into place by the AOC ahead of the Games have proved valuable in managing the situation.
âOnce again, abundant caution and our strict protocols continue to keep the team safe. We will continue to be very thorough in our observance of the Tokyo playbooks and our own additional measures.
âWe want every Australian athlete to be in a position to have their Olympic moment. We will continue to be vigilant.â
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced earlier this week that a singles bubble was being introduced for those of us stuck in godforsaken lockdown here in Sydney.
Thanks for thinking of us, Gladys, but itâs no longer required. Iâm officially off the market. Tokyo Olympics, youâre The One. Thank you for putting the âhotâ back into âhotspotâ.

Jessica Fox is through to the C1 canoe slalom final.
She looks a clear grade above the rest of the field, an unbackable favourite, canât see her being beaten ... Hang on, thatâs what everyone was saying on Tuesday.
The final starts at 4.55pm AEST.
Between now and then, weâre looking for whatever occult powers we can find to reverse the commentatorâs curse.

Australiaâs medal hopes are officially cooked in the womenâs trap. Laetisha Scanlan has just been eliminated â" and boy, that was tense.
Scanlan had to nail her final target after the shooter before her, San Marinoâs Alessandra Pirelli, hit hers. But the 31-year-old couldnât hold her nerve and now sheâs finished fourth, missing the podium once again after finishing fifth in Rio.
Scanlan looked devastated at that.
The good news â" the tiny microstate of San Marino is guaranteed its first medal. Itâs now just a matter of the colour.
