Donald Trump Lashes Out At Insidious Attempts At Sensitive Inside Information
Donald Trump, the former President of the US, has lashed out against The New York Times for trying to obtain sensitive information and publish records of Trumpâs tax history. He has also filed a lawsuit against the newspaper, 3 of its reporters, and his niece, Mary Trump.
In his lawsuit, Donald Trump has alleged that the Times had influenced his niece to smuggle out records from her office to hand them over. This was, he alleged, despite a privacy agreement that Ms. Trump had signed back in 2001 as part of the settlement of a legal fight involving Donald Trumpâs father, and Maryâs grandfather, Frederickâs will.
The suit was filed by Alina Habba, Donald Trumpâs attorney, in New Yorkâs Dutchess County. Donald Trump has sought damages that have been determined could be not below $100M. But his attorney has left it to the courts to decide on the exact amount.
It is the second suit against Mary after Robert, the former presidentâs brother, filed a suit, through Charles Harder, to stop her from publishing her memoirs. The title referred to the creation of the most dangerous man on earth.
Judge Found Donald Trumpâs Allegations Too VagueThe judge had found the confidentiality agreement of 2001 too vague to prevent Mary from publishing her memoir. Justice Hal Greenwald has also noted that the publisher was not part of the agreement. Robert passed away in 2020.
The three reports of The Times were also not part of the 2001 agreement signed by Donald Trumpâs niece in 2001. Susanne Craig, Russ Buettner, and David Barstow are winners of the Pulitzer Prize in 2019. They won it for Explanatory Reporting on the information that Donald Trump had withheld about his taxes.
But Donald Trump has alleged in his new suit that they had been directly liable for the agreement being broken. He also alleged that the reporters had been motivated partially by malice.
Mary Trump has called her uncle a âf**king loser,â and has called him desperate, as the wall closes in around him. She said that it was normal for Donald to deviate from the subject.
A Times spokesperson said that their reporting had informed the public on a subject that was in the public interest and said that their reporting had been meticulous.
Mary Trump had herself filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, Robert, and their sister Maryanne for fleecing her to the tune of over tens of millions of dollars after her father, Frederickâs death.
